અમદાવાદ: આજથી અંદાજે 25 વર્ષ પહેલાં એક ગુજરાતીથી ભલ-ભલી વિદેશી કંપનીઓ ડરતી હતી. આ ગુજરાતી એટલે રમેશ ચૌહાણ. ઘણા ઓછા લોકોને ખબર હશે કે Thumbs Up, Gold Spot, Maaza અને Limcaના જનક ગુજરાતી રમેશ ચૌહાણ છે.
એક સમયે તેઓ દેશના સોફ્ટ ડ્રિન્ક માર્કેટમાં 80 ટકાથી વધારે હિસ્સા પર એક હથ્થુ શાસન ધરાવતા હતા. તેમને ‘સોફ્ટ ડ્રિન્ક કિંગ’ તરીકે ઓળખવામાં આવતા. તેમણે ત્યાર બાદ આ બધી બ્રાન્ડ કોકા કોલાને વેચી દીધી હતી. અને તેમણે નવેસરથી બિસ્લેરી બ્રાન્ડથી મિનરલ વોટર માર્કેટમાં ઝંપલાવ્યું હતું.
ચૌહાણ પરિવાર વલસાડ મુંબઈ શિફ્ટ થયો
17 જુન 1940ના રોજ પિતા જયંતીલાલ અને માતા જયાબેન ચૌહાણના ઘરે રમેશભાઈનો જન્મ થયો હતો. તેઓ માતા-પિતાનું ચોથું સંતાન હતા. રમેશ ચૌહાણના દાદા વલસાડથી મુંબઈ સ્થાયી થયા હતા. દાદા મોહનલાલે વિલે પારેલમાં જમીન ખરીદી પારલે પ્રોડક્ટ શરુ કરૂ હતી. તેમણે શરૂઆતમાં ગુજરાતી સ્કૂલમાં અભ્યાસ બાદ ગ્લાલિયરની સિંધિયા સ્કૂલમાં અભ્યાસ કર્યો હતો બાદમાં મેટ્રિક પાસ કરી 15 વર્ષની ઉંમર બોસ્ટન ગયા હતા. 1962માં રમેશ ચૌહાણે એમઆઈટી યુનિવર્સિટીમાંથી બિઝનેસ મેનજમેન્ટ એન્ડ એન્જિનિયરિંગની ડિગ્રી મેળવી હતી.
પારેલ પ્રોડક્ટના ભાગ પડ્યા
દાદા મોહનલાલે પારલે પ્રોડક્ટના ભાગ પાડતાં રમેશ ચૌહાણના પિતાના ભાગે સોફ્ટ બિઝનેસ આવ્યો હતો. જ્યારે તેમના કાકાના ભાગે પારલે બિસ્ક્ટિની પ્રોડક્ટ આવી હતી. બાદમાં રમેશભાઈના પિતાએ મુંબઈમાં જમીન ખરીદી ફેક્ટરી શરૂ કરી હતી. વર્ષ 1977માં કેન્દ્રમાં જનતા સરકાર આવતા અમુક કારણોસર કોકાકોલાને પોતાનો બિઝનેસ બંધ કરવો પડ્યો હતો. રમેશ ચૌહાણે આ તકને ઝડપી ધડાધડ હળવા પીણાની બ્રાન્ડ બજારમાં મૂકવાની શરૂઆત કરી. તેમણે ગોલ્ડ સ્પોટ, લિમ્કા, થમ્સ અપ, સિટ્રા, માઝા જેવી બ્રાન્ડ બનાવી.
નાછૂટકે કોલાકોલાને બધી બ્રાન્ડ વેચવી પડી
રમેશ ચૌહાણે આ દરમિયાન મુંબઈમાં 4 લાખ રૂપિયામાં ઈટાલીની બિસ્લેરી કંપની ખરીદી લીધી. વર્ષ 1993 બાદ રમેશ ચૌહાણ માટે કપરો સમય શરૂ થયો હતો. સરકારની ઉદારીકરણની નીતિથી ફરી કોકાકોલા કંપનીએ ભારતમાં બિઝનેસ શરૂ કર્યો અને ધીમે ધીમે રમેશ ચૌહાણનું નેટવર્ડ તોડવા લાગી. વધતી હરિફાઈના કારણે અથાગ મનોમંથન બાદ રમેશ ચૌહાણે કોકા કોલાને પોતાની બ્રાન્ડ 50 કરોડ ડોલરમાં વેચી દીધી. આ રીતે રમેશ ચૌહાણે સોફ્ટ ડ્રિન્ક બિઝનેસમાં નીકળવાનો નિર્ણય લીધો હતો.
મિનરલ વોટરમાં બસ્લેરીનો વાગ છે ડંકો
રમેશ ચૌહાણે કોકાકોલાને સોફ્ટ ડ્રિન્ક બિઝનેસ વેચી દીધા બાદ1995માં મિનરલ વોટર બિસ્લેરી પર કામ શરૂ કર્યું હતું. આજે બિસ્લેરની સોડા, વેદીકા, ઉર્જા સિહતની બ્રાન્ડનું મોટું માર્કેટ છે. રમેશ ચૌહાણ હાલ 1800 કરોડની વેલ્યૂવાળી બિસ્લેરી ઈન્ટરનેશનલના ચેરમને છે. હાલ રમેશ ચૌહાણની પુત્રી જયંતી બેસ્લેરી કંપનીની જવાબદારી સંભાળે છે. મુંબઈના વિલે પારેલના વિશાળ બંગલામાં રમેશ ચૌહાણનો પરિવાર રહે છે .પત્ની ઝૈનાબ અને પુત્રી જયંતી સાથે રમેશ ચૌહાણ રહે છે.
