અમેઠીઃ દિવંતગત પૂર્વ પ્રધાન સુરેન્દ્ર સિંહનો 21 વર્ષીય દીકરો અભય સાંસદ સ્મૃતિ ઈરાનીને જોઈ રડી પડ્યો હતો. આ સમયે સ્મૃતિ ઈરાનીએ અભયને છાતી સરસો ચાંપી દીધો અને કહ્યું હતું, ‘કસમ ખા મારી કે તું કંઈ જ ખોટું નહીં કરે, તે તારા પિતા ગુમાવ્યા છે તો અમે અમારો ભાઈ ગુમાવ્યો છે.’ આ સાંભળીને ત્યાં ઉભેલા દરેક વ્યક્તિની આંખો ભીની થઈ ગઈ છે. સ્મૃતિએ અભયનો હાથ પકડ્યો અને કહ્યું હતું કે ચલો અર્થીને કાંધ આપીએ. એક બાજુ સ્મૃતિ હતી અને બીજી બાજુ દીકરો અભિય. પિતાના ગમમાં જ્યારે દીકરાના પગ લથડ્યાં ત્યારે ભાજપના અન્ય નેતાઓએ અર્થીને કાંધ આપી હતી. ઉલ્લેખનીય છે કે સુરેન્દ્રની હત્યા કેટલાંક અજાણ્યા શખ્સો કરી છે. માનવામાં આવે છે કે ભાજપની જીત થતાં કોંગ્રેસ કાર્યકર્તાઓને આ વાત પસંદ આવી નથી અને સ્મૃતિ ઈરાનીની જીતમાં સુરેન્દ્રનો ઘણો જ મોટો ફાળો રહેલો છે.
કંઈ જ બોલ્યા વગર ચૂપચાપ ચાલી સ્મૃતિ ઈરાનીઃ
સ્મૃતિ ઘરથી સ્માશન સુધી પોતાના ભાઈની અર્થી ઉઠાવીને ચાલી હતી. 300 મીટરનું અંતર અને હજારોની ભીડ. તમામ લોકો કહી રહ્યાં હતાં કે દીદી તમે હવે થાક્યા હશો. અમને કાંધ આપવા દો પરંતુ કંઈ જ બોલ્યા વગર અર્થીને કાંધ આપીને સ્મૃતિ ચૂપચાપ સ્મશાન સુધી ચાલી હતી. હિંદુ રીત-રિવાજ પ્રમાણે, રસ્તામાં પાંચ વાર અર્થીને જમીન પર મૂકી તથા ઉઠાવી હતી. છેલ્લીવાર ચિતાની નજીક જ અર્થીને નીચે મૂકી હતી.
આજથી હું જ તમારો દીકરોઃ
પોતના સૌથી પ્રેમાળ કાર્યકર્તાના અંતિમ દર્શન માટે સ્મૃતિ જ્યારે ઘરની અંદર ગઈ તો તેણે સુરેન્દ્રની માતાના ખોળામાં માથું મૂકીને કહ્યું હતું કે આજથી હું જ તમારો દીકરો છું. મોટાભાઈ નરેન્દ્રના પગે મળીને બહેન હોવાનો અહેસાસ કરાવ્યો તો દિવંગત કાર્યકર્તાની પત્નીને ગળે મળીને પોતીકાપણાની લાગણી બતાવી. પરિણીત દીકરો પૂજા તથા પ્રતિમાના માથે હાથ ફેરવીને કહ્યું કે દરેક ક્ષણે તારા પિતાની બહેન તારી સાથે જ રહેશે.
સ્મૃતિ ઈરાનીએ કાંધ આપતા હજારોની આંખોમાં આંસુ આવ્યાઃ
સ્મૃતિ ઈરાનીએ સ્વ. ભાઈ સુરેન્દ્ર સિંહની અર્થી ઉઠાવી તો આખુ ગામ હિબકે ચઢ્યું હતું અને લોકોએ નારા લગાવ્યા હતા કે જબ તક સુરજ ચાંદ રહેગા, સુરેન્દર તેરા નામ રહેતા..સ્મશાનમાં સ્મૃતિ ઈરાનીએ દિવંગત સુરેન્દ્રના પાર્થિવ દેહને માથુ ઝુકાવીને નમન કર્યાં હતાં.
